Why is it Important?

A lot of people understand that maintaining your overall health is vital in order to be able to sustain a longer life. Getting your heart regularly checked, ensuring that the level of your blood pressure is normal, and keeping in great shape are just some of the many ways one can keep themselves healthy.

What may be surprising to some is that the maintenance of one’s oral health is just as important. Your dental health actually reflects the state your body is in–if your oral health is good, chances are your body is in good condition as well. If it is not, then there is a chance that you may also have other health problems.

Based on the research of the Academy of General Dentistry, gum or periodontal diseases are connected to several health problems namely stroke or any illness related to the heart. The research also shows that women who suffer from gum ailments are more likely to give birth to premature, low birth-weight infants.

Additional research also shows that more than 90% of methodical ailments carry with them symptoms of oral problems like mouth ulcers, swollen gums, dry mouth, etc. (These methodical ailments refer to heart and kidney illnesses, pancreatic cancer, oral cancer, leukemia and diabetes.)

Have regular check-ups with a dentist as much as possible. Your dentist can maintain your oral health, and can trace any possible symptoms you may have in relation to other health ailments. Most importantly, always take into account your own daily oral health routine.
